About me
Thanks for stopping by,
I am Genevieve Taylor (AKA Gem) an artist working primarily in acrylic and watercolour, though I don’t consider myself a traditionalist in either medium. I often blur the lines between the two—using acrylics with the spontaneity and fluidity of watercolour, and sometimes adding a touch of acrylic to elevate my watercolour works. This playful cross-pollination creates a dynamic balance between control and chance, echoing the freedom I find in both mediums.
My inspiration comes from the magic and mystique of the Kimberley region where I grew up - her vivid colours, curious creatures, and unforgettable characters. I’m drawn to moments of natural wonder: the glint off a barramundi’s back, the ghostly tread of a pearl diver, the rainbow lattice of a blue ornate crayfish, the steady gaze of a Brahman bull on the Roebuck Plains.
My work is not about capturing what the eye sees, but what the heart remembers.
Love Gem x
